Last week we talked about ways to keep uo your job search in chellenging times. Here are a few more:
1) Prepare yourself for a longer job search – it used to take 10 weeks to a year depending upon your title and level. It may take longer than that. So keep calm and carry on. Talk to a close friend or coach at least once a week to stay connected, accountable and motivated.
2) Keep researching companies where you would lke to work. Are they laying off workers or just having people work from home? Are they slowing down or busier than ever? Do they have new needs they didn’t have before?
3) Review your finances and your budget – What are your fixed expenses and your variable expenses? Is there anything you can cut out now? Reduce your expenditures wherever possible. Put off purchasing big ticket items no matter how tempting the sales might be.
4) Think outside the box for your job target.- Consider something you have not thought about. If money is tight consider taking a temporary or part-time job. There are still lots of openings in such areas as customer service reps, data analysts, and media specialists, to mention a few.
5) Learn something new – What are you doing with all your free time? Expand your skill set through online learning. There are lots of free courses and certificates online at UDemy, Lynda, EdEx as well as online at universities if you audit (without credit) such as Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley and MIT.
We live in challening times and we need to keep going.
