1) Stop wasting time answering online ads. Write directly to hiring managers one or two levels above you.
2) Work with one or two recruiters who specialize in your field. Get recommendations.Ask if they are retained or contingency. Retained means they are the only ones filling a particular position. Contingency means several other recruiters are also on board. Whoever gets the candidate hired will get the commission.
3) Research a company before the interview by going to.their website. Read the annual report, articles in trade journals and the Wall Street Journal.
4) Research the person who will interview you by looking at their LinkedIn profile. See where they have worked, where they went to school, and any other pertinent info. Perhaps you have attended the same school or have connections in common.
5) Prepare for your interview by practicing your stories of accomplishments. Prepare questions to ask during the interview to learn.more about the company’s short and long term goals and what help do they need right now. What keeps the interviewer up at night?
