You need advice for your next career move and want to use the services of a professional career coach. So how do you choose between private coaching sessions and a small group workshop setting?
Both will give you access to a career professional. Both will provide weekly meetings that will keep you motivated and accountable. Both provide the tools and techniques for your job search.
So what are the differences?
Private Coaching
1.You get more undivided personal attention – if you really need to work out your next career move, or have been out of the workforce a long time, or are afraid of interviewing, you will need more one-to-one time with a coach.
2. You can spend more time on your specific problems
3. You don’t need to listen to other people’s problems, issues and complaints – tired of hearing other peole complain about their work situation? Then you don’t want a group.
4.Complete privacy and safe space
Group Coaching
1.Hear other opinions of your situation, suggestions for your resume, cover letter
2.Get emotional support from a group of people in the same situation, going through the same process
3.Lower cost but less personal time with coach.
So the choice is yours. It depends upon your specific needs, your personality and your pocketbook. Sometimes going to the group is a great way to kick off your job search and then you can use the private coaching to refine your resume and interview skills. A combination of the two will keep you on track, motivated, and focused to get the job you want.
