Have you been applying online to job boards? (Monster.com, Indeed, Idealist, Zip recruiter) Have you gotten any responses, let alone interviews?
Maybe because fewer than 10% of job seekers actually get a job by applying online.80% of jobs are not advertised. Many jobs are already filled even though they are advertised. Or, the requirements are so ridiculous that no one human being can possibly meet the criteria.
How do you overcome the ATS (applicant tracking system)?
1) Your resume needs to track 85-90% of the job description with keywords and phrases. Otherwise, the ATS will kick you out. Use keywords and phrases in your cover email as well as your resume.
2) Network your way into the company. Find someone who works there whom you can be introduced to by someone in your network. That person can direct you to the hiring manager.
3) Write directly to the hiring manager in addition to applying online. In your cover email say you have completed the online application and mention your top skills and two or three relevant accomplishments.
